Garey Ingram, Talent Consultant II/Talent Acquisition

How does a professional ballplayer and coach make the transition to healthcare? In the case of Garey Ingram, the change was easy.
After playing Major League Baseball for the famed LA Dodgers for three years and another quarter century recruiting and coaching for major league teams, this talent scout/coach knew what it took to recruit the best players. It wasn’t hard to apply the same principles to a different arena.
Growing up in Columbus Georgia in an area where it would have been easy to go astray, he credits baseball with keeping him out of trouble and giving him the discipline needed to be a successful athlete.
His true calling now, he says, is to spread encouragement and joy onto others, especially those with whom he works. Coming from the baseball world allowed me to work with a diverse group of people,” he says. Just as in baseball, his team, which he calls “incredible,” uses a variety of platforms to attract potential applicants.
“In finding the right person for each job, we’re an integral part of patient care.” he says. He reviews dozens of applications each day, and when he sees an outstanding qualified applicant, he passes the name on to the department
manager.
In his downtime, he’s an avid crappie fisherman and has a YouTube channel Cove Ultimate Fishing with videos of his fishing outings throughout North Carolina.
He also is a popular speaker to young people and youth groups, motivating and encouraging them. I asked who was his favorite coach and he answered: His very own Major League Manager, the legendary Dodgers’ skipper, Tommy
Lasorda. He also says that there would never have been a major league player named Garey Ingram if Tommy Lasorda didn’t give him an opportunity to play at the Major League level. Garey says that he goes by one phrase and that is to make a difference in one person’s life each day and everything will always work out.
